Dear Target store….how could you?
I come to you for one reason and one reason only.
Not for the prices because, frankly…you’re not cheap.
Not for the groceries because, honestly…Shoprite’s closer.
Not for the clothes because, seriously…Old Navy has you beat.
I come for the delicious…Berry Parfait…that you have in the fresh fruit section.
…or rather, the one that you used to have…(insert disgusted growl).
That cool, refreshing mix of fresh berries, crunchy oats, and creamy yogurt that blended together with a promise of hope and cheer.
(Yes, it meant a lot to me.)
It changed my world. It lifted me up. It lightened my load.
And there are times when, I enter your store weary, worn and discouraged…anticipating the one treat that can reach into my day and give me a reason to carry on. (Well…maybe I’m being a bit dramatic here. Shocking, I know.)
It’s the desert that…
…no bad attitude can touch.
…no temper tantrum can destroy.
…no whining or complaining can ruin.
It stands alone, ready and willing to offer me a light at the end of my tunnel.
So, today, as I rounded the aisle, ready to reach for my hope-in-a-cup, I discovered…a re-arranged aisle.
Grrr…(Great. Now I’ll have to search, right?)
Up and down the aisle I go…looking…searching…for my favorite treat.
And after finding it nowhere, I turn to someone and ask.
At first they point toward some fruit cups, but, “No,” I reply, “that’s not it. It’s the freshly-made Berry Parfaits.”
Ahhh….understanding dawns on his face.
“Oh! Those. Oh, ma’am, I’m so sorry. They don’t make them anymore.”
Shock, horror, and disbelief trying to register somewhere in my cranial cavity.
“Wha…?! Are you serious?! That can’t be. That’s why I came here.”
Target-man: “I know. Everyone loves them.” (Well, duh!) “You should fill out a survey and complain.”
Well….while this is no survey, it is where my voice is (somewhat) heard.
Pu-u-h-h-h—l-l-l-e-e-e-e-a-a-a-a-z-z-z-z-e-e-e-e-e bring them back.
They make my day.
They refresh my soul.
They lift my spirits.
They lighten the load.
Please, please, puh-leeeze don’t take them away. You can’t. (Overlooking the fact that they already did.) It’s what makes you so special, Target…those sweet, delicious Berry Parfaits.
Maybe I should organize a picket line.
(My kids would be too embarrassed. And my husband wouldn’t claim me.)
And I’ll beg.
…pretty please?…with sugar (or oats) on top?
