mirror, mirror on the wall…

I’m reading in Jeremiah right now and a phrase jumped out at me this morning.

“And I Myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm…” {Jeremiah 21: 5, KJV}

{Yikes.} When I read that, I thought, ‘It’s scary when God has chosen to fight against you.’ But what’s even scarier is…sometimes even that doesn’t stop us from continuing down our own self-made paths.

Seriously, people…who in the world do we think we are? Daring to take on the God of glory. Our Creator. The One who breathes life into us each moment.

And since He created us, I personally believe that each one of us are really just…mirrors…designed to reflect what is in front of us.

In other words, we ‘mirror’ who or what we are focused on.

Focusing on God produces: peace, wisdom, discernment, joy, contentment, calm, sense of purpose, order, structure.

Focusing on anything but God produces: chaos, resentment, frustration, arrogance, turmoil, selfishness, confusion

{Since you’re a smart person, I’m sure you can think of a few more words to add to those two points. Words that fit your situation or circumstance more accurately.}

Either way, it all comes down to one main idea…you’re either focusing on God or you’re not.

So how do you know which one it is? Well, take a good look and ask yourself this…

What are my emotions like right now?
How is my spirit feeling?
What are my thought-processes about?
Do I feel grounded, with a strong sense of God-purpose?
Or am I scattered and turned around?

If you were to look in a mirror right now, you couldn’t argue with what you saw. {Deep thought, I know.} And although you may not like the reality that’s reflecting back at you…you can’t fight what is.

So what is your reflection showing you right now?

God?

or…

Everything but Him?

And if it isn’t Him, you might take a step back so as to re-align your focus. Because if your life isn’t reflecting Who He is…you just might find yourself in a battle with Him, fighting against God Almighty. {Which is not smart, in case you haven’t figured that out yet. Because you won’t win against Him. Ever.}

Matthew Henry’s Commentary put it like this, “If God be for us, who can be against us? But if He be against us, who can do anything for us?”

Are your plans unraveling at your feet?
Does it seem as though everything you touch is falling apart?
When you look back, is chaos trailing behind you or is there a sense of order?

Is God fighting with you or against you?

Are you reflecting His image or…theirs?

Trust me, you’ll figure it out. {If you have the guts to check your reflection.}
