According to the story…a ship was sailing through black waters on a black night. The seamen on watch saw a light ahead and told the Captain, who immediately ordered the following message sent:
“Request that you alter your course 10 degrees south.”
The reply: “Request that you alter your course 10 degrees north.”
The Captain, now angry, sent another message: “Request you alter your course 10 degrees south. I am the Captain.”
The reply: “Request you alter your course 10 degrees north. I am a third-class seaman.”
This time the Captain became furious: “Request you alter your course 10 degrees south. I am a battleship!”
The reply: “Request you alter your course 10 degrees north. I am a lighthouse.”
I don’t know about you, but that sounds like me talking to God sometimes usually.
“God, move that sickness, loss, financial difficulty, relationship problem, or all-around-trial out of my way. Don’t you know who I am?! Don’t you remember all I’ve done for you?!”
His reply. “Nooo. How about you alter your course and follow Me through these rough spots. Besides, I’m your Creator, and you’ll never be able to match what I’ve done for you.”
Fact is, He’s in charge. He sees it all. He knows where I’m at. He’s not clueless or distant.
He’s steady.
He’s sure.
He’s trustworthy.
He’s faithful.
He’s kind.
He’s good.
And, most of all, He’s sovereign. {Whether that fits into my plans or not.}
“What comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” {A.W. Tozer}
